Dear Minister,
RE: VIETNAMESE POLICE INTERROGATING ASYLUM SEEKERS FROM VIETNAM IN DETENTION CENTRES IN AUSTRALIA
We refer to the matter above and advise that we have been informed by members of the Vietnamese Community in Australia that allegedly the police from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam recently went into Detention Centers in Australia, including but not limited to the detention centers in Western Australia and Queensland and interrogated the Asylum seekers from Vietnam.
We are not certain whether the above facts are true, but if these facts are true and correct, this will be a very serious threat to the Vietnamese asylum seekers and a grave concern to our Vietnamese communities worldwide. As you would appreciate these Asylum seekers escaped from Vietnam because they fear persecutions from the authorities in Vietnam. We believe that while their cases are being processed, these asylum seekers ought to be protected, especially from the regime or threat and intimidation that they were running from.
One would think that if the above facts are true the Australian Government may have seriously breached its International obligation as a signatory to the Refugee Convention, by inviting and allowing the police from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam into the Detention Centers to interrogate the Vietnamese Asylum seekers.
We anxiously request an urgent reply or explanation from your office on the above matter. Please be advised that if we don’t receive a reply or explanation from your office within the next few days and before 4th September 2013, we will assume that the above facts are correct and true, and we will be forced to convey these facts to members of our community, to the public and to the media.
