1- Vinh Quy Bái Tổ
Với chủ đề “Truyền thống phong phú hóa cuộc sống”, cuộc diễn hành văn hóa năm nay nhằm giới thiệu thêm vài nét đặc sắc của văn hoá Việt Nam với mọi tầng lớp, đặc biệt là với các thế hệ trẻ và với những người bạn Úc, góp phần vào nỗ lực bảo tồn và phát huy văn hóa Việt, mang lại niềm hãnh diện cho người Việt về những giá trị văn hóa lâu đời của dân tộc. Cuộc diễn hành văn hóa năm nay gồm ba tiết mục chính:
Một trong những hình ảnh đẹp nhất trong văn học Việt Nam. Người sĩ tử sau bao nhiêu năm tháng dồi mài kinh sử, đã thi đậu trong ba kỳ thi Hương, thi Hội và thi Đình, đạt học vị Tiến sĩ. Được Đức Vua ban bổng lộc và chức quyền, người sĩ tử ngày xưa, nay là Trạng Nguyên (Tiến sĩ Thủ Khoa) cùng đoàn tùy tùng trở về làng để bày tỏ lòng biết ơn sâu xa đối với tổ tiên, cha mẹ, thầy dạy học cùng những người đã cưu mang giúp đỡ mình thuở trước, đồng thời mang lại sự vẻ vang cho làng xóm, nơi mình đã được sinh ra, giáo dục và trưởng thành. Trong cuộc diễn hành hôm nay, Trạng Nguyên ngồi trên ngựa có vợ hiền chung thủy ngồi võng theo sau, như vẫn được ghi nhận trong văn chương “Ngựa anh đi trước, võng nàng theo sau”.
2- Đoàn Rước Dâu Trong Đám Cưới Cổ Truyền
Hôn nhân là một trong những phong tục quan trọng nhất của người Việt, gồm nhiều nghi lễ và giai đoạn khác nhau, thay đổi theo thời gian và từng địa phương. Cách chung, ít nhất phải có hai lễ là lễ đính hôn và lễ cưới. Trong cuộc diễn hành, chúng ta sẽ thấy đoàn rước cô dâu về nhà chồng sau lễ cưới, với ông bà chủ hôn dẫn đầu có hai em bé cầm lồng đèn mở đường, kế đến là cha mẹ của chú rể, sau đó là cô dâu chú rể có lọng che, phù dâu và phù rể, bạn hữu của cô dâu chú rể và bà con hai họ cùng các quả đựng quà cưới được “lại quả”. Của hồi môn của cô dâu cũng được gánh theo sau.
3- Trên Đường Đến Hội Nghị Diên Hồng
Đây là một trong những hình ảnh hào hùng nhất thể hiện lòng yêu nước và tinh thần đoàn kết cao độ của người Việt để giữ gìn bờ cõi. Vào năm 1284, đáp lời kêu gọi của vua Trần Nhân Tôn muốn biết ý kiến của toàn dân là nước Việt nên quyết tâm chống lại hay là đồng ý để Bắc phương tiến binh ngang qua lãnh thổ nước mình trên đường xâm chiếm phương Nam, các bô lão từ khắp miền vượt đường xa lũ lượt về để họp Hội Nghị tại điện Diên Hồng hầu nói lên nguyện vọng của toàn dân là quyết tâm bảo vệ đất nước dù phải hy sinh. Căn cứ vào quyết tâm đó của hội nghị, vua Trần Nhân Tôn đã cùng các tướng lãnh chỉ huy cuộc chiến đấu bảo vệ bờ cõi. Sau nhiều gian nguy trước sức mạnh như vũ bảo của quân thù, cuối cùng người Việt Nam đã đẩy lui được quân xâm lược ra khỏi đất nước thân yêu.
Cuộc diễn hành văn hóa được khởi đầu với Đội Trống Diễn Hành cùng giới trẻ trong trang phục truyền thống đẹp mắt và hai bảng “Chúc Mừng Năm Mới – Year of The Cat” có hình con mèo “Tân Mão”.
Hướng Đạo Việt Nam, Tổng Hội Sinh Viên Việt Nam NSW, Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể, We Can-vas Inc, Hội Ái Hữu Cựu Nữ Sinh Trưng Vương, Gia Đình Phật Tử, Glamour World Beauty, Hội Cao Niên Đông Dương NSW, Hội Cao Niên Việt Nam tại Marrickville, Hội Cao Niên Việt Nam tại Canterbury và Hội Thân Hữu Cao Niên Việt Nam NSW cử nhân sự tham dự cuộc diễn hành văn hóa nầy.

Cultural Parade – Year of The Cat
Under the theme “Traditions enrich our lives” this year’s cultural parade aims to introduce to all Australian friends in our culturally and linguistically diverse community especially young people some of the treasures of the Vietnamese culture in the hope that this activity would demonstrate the pride that Vietnamese people take in their tradition and cultural values and at the same time foster the effort of preserving and developing Vietnamese culture in Australia. The cultural parade of this year is comprised of three main items:
1- The Most Honourable Doctor’s Return Procession
After a very long time of hard studying, passing the three examinations at provincial and national levels, and acquiring the Top of the Doctorate Degree awarded by the King, the young gentleman who is now called "The Most Honourable Doctor" is returning home with his new title and his servicemen, accompanied by his lovely wife, to pay tribute to his teacher, his parents as well as his ancestors. On this journey, he rides a horse, followed by his wife on a hammock which is carried by 2 servicemen. The Most Honourable Doctor’s return has brought about great pride and reputation to all of his relatives and local people who are now standing along the roads in welcoming him back to their village.
2- Traditional Wedding Procession
Marriage has been very important for Vietnamese and comprises of different stages. Basically there are 2 main ceremonies. At this stage, the Groom’s family is on their return with the Bride after the wedding ceremony at the Bride's family. The procession is led by 2 children holding lanterns followed by a married couple who play the role of the chiefs of this marriage. Behind the chiefs of the marriage are the groom’s parents. Next, the Bride and the Groom with their bridesmaid and best man are followed by relatives and friends of both families. There are two people carrying 2 canopies to give the Bride and the Groom enough shade and make them feel comfortable during the journey. The boxes containing offerings from the Groom’s family is now being brought back to them (after the Bride’s family received most – but not all - of the offerings). That’s why the Groom’s family is bringing them back. At the end of the procession are two men carrying a chest containing jewellery and presents given to the Bride by her family.
3- Senior Citizens on their way to Dien Hong Conference
This conference is a symbolic image of the Vietnamese’s patriotism and unity in their national defence against foreign invasions. In 1284, Vietnam was facing an imminent invasion from the North, King Tran Nhan Ton issued an edict to convene a conference on national defence at Dien Hong Royal Castle and urged his people to attend the conference. The King wanted to consult with the people about whether they should give in to the invaders and accept foreign occupation of the country to avoid defeat and save people’s lives or stand up to the enemy, given the fact that the enemy was so much stronger militarily. In response to the King’s call, senior citizens from all over the country went to the capital city to attend the conference in which they unanimously decided to confront the invaders at any costs. After the conference, and based on the will of the people, King Tran Nhan Tong and his generals came up with a counter-attack plan which was later launched successfully in defeating the enemy.
The cultural parade is led by the drum band of the Vietnamese Scout Groups and the two banners “Happy New Year – Year of the Cat” followed by young people wearing beautiful traditional costumes.
Organisations participating in the parade today are: Vietnamese Scout Groups, We Can-vas Inc, Vietnamese Students Association NSW, The Eucharistic Movement, Buddhist Youth Association, Glamour World Beauty, Indo-Chinese Senior Citizens Association of NSW, Trưng Vương Girls High School Alumni, Vietnamese Senior Citizens Associations in Canterbury and in Marrickville, and Vietnamese Elderly Friendship Association.
The cultural parade is arranged and coordinated by Mr. Thuat Van Nguyen OAM.
